I stumbled upon some facebook tributes to Beth and that is how I came to know of her passing. This is hard to imagine. She always seemed so vibrant and alive. I am so, so sorry to hear this and as we all probably feel, did not tell her (often enough) what a great person she was.
Beth was a trailblazer, setting up the protocol that brought GF oats to market. I had pure oats for breakfast this morning, thanks to her! She did so much with PEN as well as the RD and allergy community. She gave her all to everything she did, including supporting me as I started The Celiac Scene in 2008, and during that, the end of my marriage. She emailed me almost every day with words of encouragement or to share a joke. She often told me to talk to ‘The Big Guy Upstairs’ if I needed more help than she could give.
My condolences to her brother, nephews and her great niece and nephew who were so important to her. How will they all manage without her?
Beth will be forever loved and appreciated by the celiac community, and me.

My condolences to Beth’s family and friends. Beth and I didn’t get to know each other very well although we are related. Beth’s mother, Margaret and I were first cousins. Beth’s grandfather Erle and my father Norman were brothers. I often heard about Beth from Margaret, of her accomplishments and good deeds. Probably the last time I saw Beth was at Margaret’s funeral. I wish I could have got to know her better. She obviously was a wonderful person.

Just by reading the heartfelt tributes to Beth, I am reminded what a difference she made in so many people's lives, mine included. We met in 1985, at a Dietitians of Canada conference, and became fast friends - she unconditionally accepted who you were and was very giving of herself. There are many stories of her love and support, some have found their way to this tribute wall and there is a theme running through them of friendship, family, caring, tradition, commitment, compassion, dedication, loyalty, and love. Beth gave so much of herself to family and friends. She’d give you the shirt off her back, or the back cream out of her toiletry bag (and that’s true – when a colleague had a sore back a few conferences ago, Beth gave her a tube of Voltaren to ease her back pain - that was who she was). There are so many memories I have of her, but two special trips to Wales to visit the Morgan family have to rank right up there; we agreed that both were trips of a lifetime and we had talked recently about a third UK visit (that will have to be a solo trek - but needless to say, it won't be the same). The photo is of Beth and I at a scenic vista in South East Wales, we packed so much into each trip we took and every visit we had with each other, just as Beth packed so much into her all too short life. I am a better person for having known Beth, she will continue to be with me in spirit wherever I go. My deepest condolences to all of Beth's family and friends, she touched so many people in all she did, and I look forward to a time to get together in person with those who loved her, to swap stories and honour the life of a wonderful friend.

Dear Family of My Friend Beth, I discovered only in the early hours of this morning, on Facebook, about the death of my lovely, kind, funny, warm, generous, thoughtful, smart, caring, respectful (and so much more) friend. I am in a state of disbelief and enormous sadness as I come to the understanding that we shall never again have a chance to share conversation, laughter, counsel, and those fabulous hugs. I share in your grief over the loss of this beautiful person, memories of whom will live on in each of us who were graced with her friendship and her love. Our acquaintanceship as colleagues - she a dietitian, I a speech-language pathologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal Neurological Hospital - blossomed into a wonderful friendship, which grew even stronger despite my move back to my hometown of Winnipeg after many years in Montreal, and despite the many months between our visits, usually in Montreal, and once, delightfully, in Winnipeg. Beth's love extended also to my daughter, Kinneret. Beth was so devoted to her family - she spoke of you all, often, and with such tenderness. Please accept heartfelt condolences.... May she rest in peace.... I shall miss her greatly.... Pam Bager

To Beth's family, please accept my most sincere condolences. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Beth. I got to know Beth several years ago through Dietitians of Canada/PEN, and it was lovely to see her at the DC conferences. She was very friendly and approachable and always a delight to chat with. Last year, at the DC conference in Ottawa, it was so pleasant spending some time with her and her dog Archie. I will cherish this picture with her.

Archie, Thomas and Sundance became great friends, we called them the 3 musketeers. Beth was so personable, fun, and funny. I was so sad when she moved to Brampton. She will be very missed. I have fond memories of Beth as she was a great friend of our late aunt Susan Morgan. Beth would call our home on Christmas Eve and pretend to be Mrs. Claus so my brother, sister and I could tell her how excited we were! Her impression of Daffy Duck was always spot on as well!
My wife and I were very happy to have Beth at our wedding in 2016, making the long drive for our special day. The photo shown is of the Morgan family with Beth at Susan's memorial stone.

We are sorry to hear of Beth's passing. Sending condolences to all of Beth's family and friends.
I knew Beth from Dorchester when I was 5 yrs old and also attended Kindergarten at the Village Community Hall and then grade 1 at the elementary school. Our family moved to Sarnia after that but our family always stayed connected. I remember every Fall I would go to the Western Fair with Beth and other friends. We would hang around in the barn with some of their holstein cows and go on rides later in the evening. Then at Thanksgiving would look forward to the Dorchester fair with Beth. The past 10 years anytime we were heading home from N.S and P.E.I. trips we would meet up with Beth in Montreal and go out for dinner.
Beth loved her work, kept in touch with her friends and was very devoted to her family. We will all miss her deeply.

My deepest condolences to all of Beth’s family and friends. She was a special person.
I knew Beth since we were five years old and attended kindergarten at the village Community Hall, learning to read “Dick and Jane” and carrying around our napping blankets. We continued on through elementary school, 4-H clubs, high school and class trips to Expo 67 and Quebec City (supposedly to improve our French!). University took us to different cities and our careers to different regions of the country. She to Quebec and me to Saskatchewan.
Unfortunately, we lost touch for a couple of decades, then thanks to Beth, I reconnected with her and a number of “old” friends. Since then, we have shared many laughs over coffee, lunches, Muskoka weekends and travels.
Beth was smart, wickedly funny, passionate about her work and devoted to her family and friends.
I will miss her deeply.

I met Beth when I started working with Dietitians of Canada and she was a favourite colleague for my 17 years there. During the years that our research foundation CFDR had silent auctions she was our auctioneer, and she brought her wonderful humour to the role. Beth coaxed lots of money out of us for the foundation. I have fond memories or sharing a laugh or two and a drink (more than two) during breaks in our conferences. I'll miss her. Deep condolences to her family and many friends

To Beth's Family and Friends,
I was away for a couple of days and having just read my emails from Dietitians of Canada, I simply cannot express my sadness enough for your loss. I am a dietitian colleague of Beth's. Our paths crossed quite a few times over the 30 years that I have been a dietitian and I have always found Beth to be inclusive, thoughtful and kind. I remember dancing with her at a social that was part of a Dietitians of Canada conference and laughing hard as we just let ourselves be silly. She was an asset to our profession and to human kind. A rare and special person I shall miss her presence and signature hair at future DC events. Sue Behari-McGinty

Dear Armour Family,
I was both shocked and saddened to hear of Beth’s sudden passing, the world has lost a beautiful soul. I first met Beth when my family was transferred to Montreal in 2001. As an anglophone dietitian, I knew job possibilities in my profession were going to be few and far between. Beth kindly met with me at the Royal Vic and took me under her wing. Not only did she help me find a part time job in my profession, she also worked with me on a few consulting jobs as well. Little did I know at the time that these experiences with Beth would lead to new job opportunities when I returned to Nova Scotia. I will be forever grateful to Beth for helping me stay connected to my profession in Montreal and for the friendship she provided during my 5 year stay in the province. My heartfelt condolences to Beth’s family and all who loved her. The world has lost a true gem.
Sincerely,

Dear Don, Andrew, Katie, Emily, Matthew, Ryan, Bianca, Linda and Bill
I am so very sorry to learn of the sudden death of Beth.
I first met Beth in 1998 when she interviewed me for a part time position as availability dietitian at the Royal Victoria hospital. To my surprise, she already new who I was, and suggested that although I could have done the job, maybe it wasn’t a good job for a mother of 3 young children, because I would need to work weekends, and all summer long. She invited me to come to journal clubs instead! I was unhappy with my current job at the time, and separate for a change, but took her advice. We remained in touch. Beth became a friend as well as a mentor, and was someone with whom you could pick up a conversation as if you had just spoken yesterday, even if you really had not spoken for months. Over the years we shared meals, walks, phone calls. She attended my daughter ‘s graduation recital, and took a keen interest in what my kids were doing. She never missed a beat or a detail. When my husband was undergoing cancer treatment, she turned up unannounced with squash soup.
One New Year’s Day, she arrived at our door during a fierce blizzard. She had been watching old movies with friends nearby- something she did every year- and felt that she needed some air and a walk. After a few drinks and lots of laughs, she headed back to Larry and Sherma’s house through that blizzard. Beth loved her traditions, and we developed our own - dinner together on election nights as we watched the results. We had planned to do the same in November.
I know how much Beth loved her family and cherished hr friendships. She was devastated by the death of Nancy and her good friend Susan, but found comfort and great joy in seeing what wonderful adults Andrew and Ryan had become. But her eyes really lit up and her voice took on a very special tone when she spoke of Emily and Matthew.
Beth was a blessing to everyone whose life she touched...and there were many of us.
Beth and I had lunch together in early November, amid the boxes in her apartment. She spoke of her desire to be closer to her family, and that when the time came, she wanted to leave this world back where she started, with her family close by. No one could have imagined this to happen so soon.
May the memories of those happy moments together be of comfort to you now, and the days and years to come. There was only one Beth Armour, and I feel privileged to have called her my friend

In Memory of Beth Armour
We came to know Beth in the early 80’s. She joined the Comité des affairs publiques established by the then President of the CPDQ (Corporation des diétététistes professionnels du Québec), Louise Desaulniers. Louise believed that Québec dietitians should occupy more pubic space. And she wanted to make sure the positions the profession took in that space were scientifically defensible and newsworthy. Remember this was the early 80’s, the idea was revolutionary.
Louise asked Lise Bertrand to preside and recruit the committee members with representation from all fields of professional practice. Beth, then the Director of Clinical Nutrition at Royal Victoria Hospital, amply filled the spot reserved for publicly employed health-care practitioners, where most Québec dietitians worked or wished to work.
Together we came to value the results achieved when individuals from diverse professional environments worked around the same table on issues facing the broader community. And, we came to like each other. Years later, when a new president disbanded the committee for being too critical, it seemed natural to continue meeting, jokingly calling ourselves “the G sept “ (G7).
We got together about every six weeks. First in restaurants until the looks from the other patrons made it obvious we were too raucous. Where was the one place we could laugh and talk as loud as we wanted? Our homes. We took turns. Eating at Beth’s was always a treat, especially dessert! Over the years, liking each other evolved to deep friendship and love.
We—Lise Bertrand, Janine Choquette, Louise Desaulniers, Nicole Doucet, Hélène Laurendeau, Sheila Murphy—remember Beth’s wonderful, unique sense of humour, which if the situation required, could be caustic. She did not suffer fools lightly. We remember her devotion to clinical nutrition and marketing rolled oats. We remember a thoughtful generous friend, who enjoyed cooking. Jars of homemade marmalade and gingerbread cookies for our kids were holiday traditions.
We remember Beth.

It was with profound sadness that we learned of Beth's passing. The Canadian Celiac Association (CCA) will truly miss her contributions to celiac disease and the gluten-free community. Beth worked alongside dietitian Shelley Case and Dr. Vernon Burrows to help bring gluten-free oats, one of the first in the world, to fruition as an option for people with celiac disease to consume. She was also passionate about educating dietitians about the nuances of the gluten-free diet to help ensure these patients thrived. As part of this work, she again worked with Shelley Case and CCA's Professional Advisory Council to develop a comprehensive guide on the gluten-free diet for the Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition portal. She was always ready to lend a hand, offer guidance with a warm and caring spirit. Thank you , Beth! Dear Don, Ryan, Katy, Emily, Matthew, Ian, Bianca, Linda and Bill,
My most sincere condolences for the sudden, painful loss of Beth. I share your great sadness in this difficult and painful time.
Beth was an amazing colleague and friend to me. We first met at the University of London Ontario, Brescia College in 1970. During our academic years she was the fun loving student, so many of us got to know and appreciate in bringing our group together. Having a special sense of humour, she was always easy to talk to, showed a great interest in others, and was determined to excel in her studies.
After leaving University to do her internship in Quebec at the Royal Victoria Hospital, she stayed on to work at the RVH until 2003. I was surprised and pleased to meet up with her in Quebec, seven hours and 720 km away, when I also came to work at the Montreal General Hospital, both institutions part of the McGill University Health Centre. Both of us, far from home, struggling to learn French, had a lot in common.
During our professional work experiences, our friendship grew. Beth was always reliable, honest, and available to discuss work issues or personal matters.
I appreciated her openness, willingness to share and her kind and warm personality. Interested in politics, technology, world news, and many other topics, she was always a pleasure to talk to. Her real passion was in Nutrition, and her dedication is known to numerous dietetic students and colleagues, where she has made a major impact forever.
On our countless travels together to and from Ontario, we would chat the whole time – about everything! Her endless generosity allowed many friends to travel with her. When my Mom could no longer travel by train, Beth proposed to assist us in bringing her from Ontario to Montreal. All my family thought highly of Beth and supplied her with perogies, cabbage rolls and Ukrainian
shish kabobs – she loved “Ukie” food, and fit right in. My Mom loved her driving – said she was the “best driver” and enjoyed each trip.
Beth also kindly always offered to make Gingerbread houses, from scratch, for my grand-kids, as for many other families. This was a Christmas tradition that we all loved. Last year (2019) as she was moving back to Ontario at the end of November, I thought it was too much, less than a week before moving – however not Beth. She wanted to spend the time together, with my two daughters and their families, as she loved to see the grand-kids enjoying the candy decorations. How fortunate I feel to have had this last festive occasion before she left Montreal to share a little time, a meal and the joyous activity.
Beth, I will sadly miss our friendship, our lengthy conversations and laughs together.
The only solace I have is knowing that you were close to your family, you continued to be enthusiastic in pursuing your nutrition passion, loved your dog Archie and lived your life fully up until the last day.
Most sincerely, Rosemarie Repa Fortier and Family xx , Saint-Bruno, Quebec..
