Marie, Glenn and family: As you know, Barb and I haven't been able to get to London to see my mother often and since COVID it has been almost two years. We very much appreciated that you and your mother did get to see her and that you let us know about the visits. It is very sad that one of Mom's last very good friends has left us. I'm sure she is still watching over us all in the same kind way she always did. We will continue to remember fondly the years in the Derwent community and especially Fern and Charlie. Dear Marie,Glen,Dale,Alice and Kyle
My sister Jean and I have very fond memories of your Mom and Dad when we were all neighbours living on the Penhale farms in the 1950s. On Saturday evenings the adults would get together to play euchre. We three kids went along as well .We really looked forward to the lunch that was served after the winners were declared. That was always our favourite part.Over the years they would occasionally be in touch long after each family had moved away.
When our mother Pearl was a resident at Caressent Care ,Bonnie Place we would often see Fern visiting or just helping out.She always greeted us with a smile followed by pleasant conversation. When she moved to Dorchester we met for coffee and had a tour of her lovely apartment.
Jean and I treasure the birthday and Christmas cards that we received from Fern. They were always filled with details of her latest trip, clippings and beautiful sentiments that she shared.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Fern was a very special lady.

Dear Marie and Glenn, I was both shocked and saddened to learn of Fern's passing. I had always planned to meet her personally but then the Pandemic intervened. It was always such fun selecting e-cards for Fern and I always knew they brought some joy and maybe a little laughter into her day. She was a remarkable woman who I am sure brought joy to many people throughout her life. I could sense that from the cards and notes she sent to me through the years. She struck me as a person who had a zest for life, strong and resilient through any bumps or challenges she may have faced. And most importantly of all, she seemed focused on looking for the best in people. I will miss her deeply. May your fond memories of Fern ease any grief you now feel, especially knowing that she is still smiling down upon you and caring for you always. Bruce

Marie, please accept our deepest condolences for the loss of your mother, Fern. She and our mother - Millie Guthrie - were friends for nearly 80 years, having met as young children in Saskatchewan. They maintained their friendship until our mother passed in 2013.

I have a special place in my heart for Fern. She was a friend of my mom’s (Jean Godsoe) who mailed cards and letters to her on a regular basis after she was diagnosed with dementia. It meant so much that Fern remembered her in this thoughtful way. I hope that in time your most cherished memories bring you comfort.
