Obituary of Wayne Cornish

CORNISH, Wayne – We were blessed to call him a husband, Dad, Poppa and friend. Together with his family at his side on February 1st 2018, Wayne Cornish at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital in his 74th year. Beloved husband of Lori Cornish (nee. Ehl). Loving father of Mark Cornish (Suzanne), Darren Cornish (Jen) and Paula Van Velzer (Jeff). Cherished Poppa of Sarah (Eric), Ryan, Allison, Layne, and Kaylie (Josh). Fondly remembered by his brother Gary Cornish (Bev) of Exeter and sister Gail Cooke (Bill) of St.Thomas. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Wayne’s first love was his family, but his adoration of baseball came as a close second. He started off his lifetime love of baseball as a fastball pitcher for the St. Thomas Tomcats. He transitioned slow pitch and played across Canada for many years. In his later years he played slow pitch throughout South Western Ontario, meeting many friends along the way. As an avid Cleveland Indians fan, he was often seen wearing his favourite baseball cap while watching the games at home. Wayne was also a proud employee of the Ministry of Transportation for many years. Wayne was a hard worker who loved to travel. He loved to take cruises, especially through the Caribbean islands. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place Saturday February 10th 2018 from 12-3PM at the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 513, 1227 Donnybrook Drive, Dorchester, ON. Friends and family are welcome to wear black and red or your Cleveland Indians or Chicago Blackhawks jerseys in honour of Wayne’s love for sports.
