To Shirley's family
Our deepest sympathy is with your family after hearing of the passing of our special cousin, Shirley . Mom, Marian White ( nee Hudson) always had such wonderful Nissouri farm stories and the escapades the two young ladies would get into. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to visit with Shirley and Jim at their Nine Mile cottage which she loved so very much. She always had the biggest smile that could brighten a room. We trust and hope the memories you have will bring you comfort in losing such a lovely lady.
Our prayers are with you,
Gayle ( nee Lewis) , Brendan, Bradley, Scott and Shannon McDougall

I was deeply saddened to hear of Shirley's recent passing. We spent many hours together creating the winning ormta scrapbooks for their competition a few years ago, indeed it was our pride and joy to present two scrapbooks full of music events and information for our London Branch members. I shall always treasure my memory of Shirley as a special person in my life. My condolences to her family from Joan Celestin

Shirley was a wonderful asset to our London Branch of Registered Music Teachers. She faithfully took on roles to look after our yearly Competitions and Grade 8 Scholarships. It was a privilege to work along side her and accept her encouraging comments to just enter students to try for higher goals. Please accept my sincere condolences to you her family.

I have many memories of spending countless hours at the Morris household. As a piano student of Shirley's, she taught me so much more than just a love of music - piano specifically.
Shirley taught me that:
1) Hard work pays off -- Skipping practice never went unnoticed with Shirley. Sometimes I wondered if she had cameras set up in my own home to see if I really was practicing the recommended the recommended time. Don't expect strong results if you haven't put in the effort.
2) Being prepared will ease your nerves -- Knowing a piece frontward and backwards was key. She would have me start a piece from spots throughout the piece rather than just at the beginning. This skill has transferred to my own career of teaching: be prepared and have a backup plan.....then you won't be nervous.
3) Step outside of your comfort zone -- I was incredibly shy yet Shirley entered me into numerous Kiwanis' music competitions. I was always thankful afterwards as I would be so proud to have competed and done well. Her push to perform in front of a crowd helped me to be able to stand in front of a crowd now as an adult.
4) Never give up -- There were times when I wanted to quit but Shirley convinced me to continue pursue my Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music. I am thankful for her endless encouragement.
There are countless other lessons I gained from Shirley .......such as the power of eating a banana and to keep my fingernails cut short. Shirley, you impacted so many through you dedication to teaching and will forever be missed.
Thank you,
Amanda Keller (Magill)

Gwen and I extend our condolences to Shirley's family. Jim, we know that you will miss Shirley dearly. I got to know Shirley fairly well during my years as minister at DUC. She was a delightful, charming woman with a great sense of humor, zest for life, and a true gift and love of music. She was so courageous in her fight with illness, and set an excellent example for me during my own health issues. She will be truly missed.
